My Experience with Johnson & Johnson Baby Wash

A lot of babies right off the bat typically have sensitive skin issues.
You may have to try different diapers, wipes, lotion and even body wash.
But this post is beyond itchy skin and rashes.

We noticed that Camden would itch his scalp a lot.
I even noticed tiny scabs from how rough he was scratching it.
He didn't have lice, and I haven't changed anything in his daily routines.
After thinking about it I realized it was most likely the perfumes in
his shampoo and lotion that were drying out his scalp (poor thing).
The same day we drove to Babies R Us and scanned down the Bath isle.
So many options, and choices!
Who knew baby shampoo could be like Rocket science?
Not only were we looking for a Natural shampoo and lotion but we wanted
one for a reasonable price!

Then we came across Babyganics...

A 16 oz pump bottle for $7.99!
We also purchased the bedtime lotion for the same price.

Pro's
*It fixed our itchy scalp problem
*Skin feels nice and soft after use.
*No: parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil,
petrolatum, gluten, artificial fragrances or dyes.

Cons's
*The smell isn't entirely pleasant (they have other scents)
*It seems like you have to use the pump multiple times
to keep just the right amount on suds going.

Growing up my family used Johnson & Johnson because
that was what everyone used. Nobody ever takes into consideration of what
actually is INSIDE of the bottle. Why are we okay about washing our babies
with chemicals that we don't even have knowledge about?
Little did I know that Johnson's products included two chemicals
known as formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane.

"Exposure to formaldehyde has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory test animals. Exposure to relatively high amounts of formaldehyde in medical and occupational settings has been linked to some types of cancer in humans, but the effect of exposure to small amounts is less clear."
-American CANCER Society

"1,4-Dioxane is used as a solvent.  Acute (short-term) inhalation exposure to high levels of 1,4-dioxane has caused vertigo, drowsiness, headache, anorexia and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs in humans.  It may also irritate the skin.  Damage to the liver and kidneys has been observed in rats chronically (long-term) exposed in their drinking water.  In three epidemiologic studies on workers exposed to 1,4-dioxane, the observed number of cancer cases did not differ from the expected cancer deaths.  Tumors have been observed in orally exposed animals.  EPA has classified 1,4-dioxane as a Group B2, probable human carcinogen."
-EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency

...what.

I'm sure a lot of you are just as shocked as I am.
Is this something we want to wash our babies with everyday?
Though, with the uproar that has been brought to the companies attention
it has been said that they removed both chemicals in 2013 and were being taken
off the shelf and replaced. Most of my products though, were bought in 2013
and given to me at my baby shower. It's safe to say we no longer use them.
And who's to say there aren't any more chemicals that haven't
been brought to our attention??

So parents, new..old..please look into Natural Products for the safety of our children.
I was once someone who would roll their eyes and say "everything causes cancer".
But why not try to prevent it as much as possible one little step at a time?
